Donald Standaloft returned the best net score in the first round of the Hector Scott Trophy at Port Bannatyne Golf Club on Saturday, but the talking point of the day’s rounds were the number of twos that were scored.

Just a couple of weeks ago Graham Fisher scooped a five-round twos rollover, with none having been carded in that time -and yet on Saturday alone there were five, with Donald landing two and John Black, Ian Shaw and Jim Thom one apiece.

Donald - who posted the lowest net and gross score in the final round of the M&M Trophy, played at the Port course the following day - also returned the joint-top score in the latest weekly Salmon Leap competition, but paid the price of a one-point deduction for his previous successess, handing victory this time to Pete Barnett.
