Stephen Coyle of Cathkin Braes Golf Club shot a two-round total of 135 to win the prestigious Bennie Trophy at Rothesay Golf Club on Saturday.
Coyle set the benchmark for the day in the 36-hole scratch strokeplay competition with a morning round of 66, placing him three clear of the Rothesay duo of George Reynolds and holder Graham Bolton.
And while Bolton – also the reigning Rothesay club champion – was able to improve on his own morning score after lunch, posting a second round 68, Coyle held his nerve by returning a 69 in the afternoon to finish the day two shots clear.
Reynolds, meanwhile, added a 72 after lunch to his morning 69 to take third place, four shots clear of Graham Strachan, who led the chasing pack in fourth with a total of 145.
The handicap prize was won by Rothesay assistant greenkeeper Shaun Kernaghan, who posted two net scores of 66 (75-9) for a winning total of 132.
