CRAIG CHARKER and Henry Tait held off a strong challenge from George Reynolds and Allan Smith to secure the Bike Shed Winter League pairs championship at Rothesay on Sunday – while Angus Murray was also celebrating after capturing the singles title the previous day.
Craig and Henry finished the competition in style by posting the best score of the final round with a total of 42 stableford points, two better than George and Allan; Richard McIntyre and Frank Lee completed the overall podium by finishing second on the day with a score which might have been even better had they not both found the trees with their tee shots at the final hole.
Angus, meanwhile, returned a score of 38 points on Saturday to take second place behind Richard McIntyre in the weekly singles competition but victory overall with a winning total of 301 points.
Michael Murty was second overall in the singles tournament, with Richard McIntyre completing the podium on a total score of 274.
The Winter League competitions at the island’s other two clubs are also nearing completion - the final of the Port Bannatyne competition, sponsored by Rothesay Motor Services, takes place this Sunday and sees form paid Jim Muldoon and Liam Shanks take on holders Graham Fisher and Ian McFarlane.
John Kernaghan moved to the top of Bute Golf Club’s singles stableford competition on Saturday with a winning weekly score of 44 points; he is now one clear of Graham McArthur at the top of the overall standings, with Stevie Neilson one point further back in third.
