Local golfer Graham Bolton remains on course to retain the two island club championship titles he won in 2014.

The reigning champion at both Bute and Rothesay secured his place in the knockout stages of the Canada Hill club’s title fight with a 36-hole aggregate score of 137 - courtesy of scores of 70 and 67 in the two qualifying rounds.

And at Bute Golf Club’s Kingarth course he returned a one-over-par 69 to lead the field by one shot after the first of two 18-hole qualifying rounds.

The second qualifying round at Kingarth takes place this Saturday, July 18, while the knockout stages of the Rothesay competition are taking place throughout this week, with the finals of the major championship and the Atlantic Tankard and Sunnidale Bowl - the last two for players with second-class and third-class handicaps respectively - taking place this weekend.
