Gary Steele looks like he will be looking for ideas for this year’s poem after he and playing partner Jimmy Crawford scored this year’s highest points total so far - a score of 47 points - to win week 13 of the pairs winter league, installing them as favourites to retain their title.
The pair scored 11 3-points and seven 2-points for a total of 22 points out, and 25 points in a full, five points ahead of this week’s runners-up one week pairing of Tommy Duncan and Neil Ritchie with a total of 42 points.
Two players scored a two at the 18th hole this week both of them playing in the last match on the course. Tommy Duncan holed from the back of the green and he was followed by this month’s sponsor and birthday boy Kenny Thomson. Again, this week no two was scored at the 4th and this will be joined by the 8th hole next week.
In this week’s singles, Angus Murray was the top scorer with 37 points, with the highlight of his round being a net eagle for four points at the 16th, helping him win by one point from Jim McClean who finished with 36 points.
Richard McIntyre kept his run of good luck going as he was the only player to score a two this week.
