Youth Football: Depleted Bute side fall to thrilling defeat

Bute YFC’s under-16s suffered back-to-back defeats for the first time this season after losing 7-5 away to championship contenders Shawbridge Thistle on Saturday.

Nico McBride opened the scoring with a lovely strike, but Shawbridge, who knew they had to win this and their last two matches to snatch the league title, levelled on the half-hour and added three more in ten minutes to lead 4-1 at half-time.

Matthew Leitch hit back with an early second-half double as Bute pushed forward in the hope of closing the gap, but Shawbridge responded with two more goals of their own to open up what should have been a comfortable 6-3 lead.

Bute, however, refused to throw in the towel, and McBride converted a penalty before Leitch completed his hat-trick to set up a grandstand finish - only for Shawbridge to seal the points late on after beating the Bute offside trap.
