Nico McBride and Matthew Leitch were the scorers for Bute Youth Football’s under-17s as the local side drew 2-2 at home to Quarriers United on Saturday.
Quarriers, out for revenge after a 3-1 home defeat to BYFC two weeks previously, attacked at speed in the first half and went into the interval 1-0 up thanks to a fine header from a corner kick with 30 minutes on the clock.
But the islanders picked up the pace in the second half and Nico’s 15-yard shot levelled the scores before Matthew bulleted a header into the net with only six minutes left.
But Bute’s hopes of clinging on to full points suffered a blow when Nico was sent off after a melee which followed a head-butt to defender Kieran Fenner, and Quarriers’ efforts were rewarded with only seconds remaining when a set-piece was not properly cleared and the ball was bundled into the net from close range.
