Bute’s football and rugby players were left idle on Saturday after heavy rain in the west of Scotland forced the postponement of their scheduled fixtures.

Rothesay Brandane AFC had been due to play host to Hamilton FP in the first division of the Caledonian League, while Bute Rugby Club were scheduled to travel to Glasgow for a friendly against Cartha Queen’s Park’s 3rd XV, but both games were called off on Saturday morning due to unplayable pitches.

Both clubs face away fixtures this Saturday, February 22: the Brandanes travel to Lochwinnoch for a league game against Viewfield Rovers, while their rugby-playing counterparts make the short journey to Fort Matilda for a friendly against Greenock Wanderers’ 3rd XV.
