Ross shines - but Scots held to Euro draw

FORMER Rothesay Academy pupil Jane Ross was the stand-out player for Scotland in Thursday night’s Euro 2013 qualifier at Tynecastle - but the Glasgow City striker’s efforts weren’t enough to prevent the Scots’ qualifying hopes suffering a blow after a 2-2 draw against Wales.

Ross, winning her 28th cap, struck in the 19th minute to pull the Scots level after Wales’ Amie Lea opened the scoring with just four minutes on the clock.

Wales regained the lead through Helen Lander, and though Jenny Beattie levelled again just before the interval, Scotland were unable to find a winner in the second half.

The Scots’ next qualifier is away to France on March 31.
