Rothesay Brandane were unable to end their losing Caledonian League run at home to Cambusbarron Rovers on Saturday – but another battling performance raised hopes among the team and their supporters that better times may not be all that far away.

An early strike from the visitors, when Craig Laird converted Gianni DeLuca’s cross with only three minutes played suggested the Rothesay men might be in for another trying afternoon, and when DiLuca himself lead on 34 minutes the home side’s chances of salvaging anything looked remote.

But the hosts created their share of opportunities in the first half, and were rewarded when Sean Lawrence bundled the ball home from close range on the stroke of half-time.

Despite their best efforts, however, the Danes were unable to force an equaliser after the break.
