Rothesay Brandane served ample notice that they’re not finished with the battle for promotion to the Caledonian League’s premier division just yet with an impressive 5-1 win at home to Hamilton FP on Saturday.

Leading scorer Stuart McKechnie fired the Danes in front from the penalty spot with only three minutes on the clock after captain Wes Pattison was brought down inside the box, and Pattison himself doubled the lead just before half time with a cool finish to a well-worked move down the right involving Stuart Brady, John McBride and Sean Lawrence.

Hamilton’s Andy Lang turned a Lawrence cross from wide on the left into his own net nine minutes after half time to give the Danes their third, and hosts used the same route to goal for their fourth on 65 minutes, Gary McGregor providing the cross this time for Brady to head home at the back post.

McKechnie’s second penalty of the afternoon (the last instalment of the photo and video clip above), this time after Brady was tripped, made it 5-0, and though the Danes kept pressing forward they were unable to add to their tally - and in fact the last word went to the visitors’ Jordan MacAleenan, who made the most of a wayward clearance to lob the ball over the Danes’ out-of-position keeper Willie Lawrence for an injury-time consolation.
