Rothesay Brandane’s Caledonian League promotion push suffered a blow on Saturday after Garry O’Hanlon’s 89th-minute strike gave East Kilbride YM full points from a seven-goal thriller in Rothesay.

O’Hanlon, who netted a hat-trick for another East Kilbride team, EKFC Whitehills, in Rothesay in January 2013, opened the scoring with a ninth-minute penalty and played in team-mate Anthony Penman to double the visitors’ lead nine minutes later.

Sean Larence’s thunderous volley reduced the deficit midway through the first half, and Wes Pattison levelled the scores with a cool finish after springing the EKYM offside trap after half an hour, but Ross McDonald’s low shot six minutes before the break gave the visitors a 3-2 interval lead.

Stuart McKechnie found the net with a beautifully-placed low drive midway through the second half to haul the Rothesay men back on terms once more, but though the Danes finished the stronger side they were unable to find a winner - and were hit by a hammer blow late on when O’Hanlon’s cool finish at the back post secured victory for the away side.
