Nathan Kernaghan scored his first senior goal on Saturday as Rothesay Brandane’s younger players again stood out in the local side’s second pre-season friendly - a 1-1 draw at home to Hillington Amateurs.

Kernaghan tapped home from close range five minutes before the break after John McBride fired the ball across the face of goal - and though Hillington’s number ten levelled on the stroke of half-time, the Danes’ performance was much improved on the previous week’s 7-1 home loss to Drumchapel.

In addition to Kernaghan’s goal, another Bute Youth Football graduate, Lex Elliott, was a star turn for the hosts at right back, while Craig McLean came on as a substitute for the final ten minutes and came within inches of putting the Danes back in front.

This Saturday, August 2, the Brandanes’ pre-season preparations continue with another home friendly, this time against Gourock. Kick-off at the public park in Rothesay is at 2.30pm.
