ROTHESAY Brandane’s preparations for the 2012-13 league campaign ended on a low note on Saturday with a 3-0 defeat at home to Gourock YAC in the local side’s third and final pre-season friendly.

The visitors were by far the stronger side in the first half, and had victory sewn up by half time; the second half was a more even affair, with the hosts creating a number of chances, although poor finishing by John McBride, Wes Pattison and Stuart McKechnie meant the Danes were unable to grab a consolation.

Much better will be required when the island club’s Caledonian League first division campaign kicks off next Saturday, August 11, with an away game against a Strathclyde University side who were relegated from the Premier Division at the end of last season.
