The Brandanes were given a stern reality check on Saturday as Stirling University eased to a comfortable 2-0 victory against a Rothesay side who failed to register a single attempt on target, writes Nino Robertson.

The island side’s hopes of building on their encouraging 2-2 draw away to Bearsden the previous week weren’t helped by their having to field a weakened line-up, with Wes Pattison, Stuart McKechnie and Gary McGregor all absent.

But after a dull first 45 minutes in which no clear-cut chances were created by either side, Stirling stretched away from their hosts, with the visitors’ number nine netting a fine second-half double to secure full points.
