Football: Rothesay hold league leaders to draw - again!

Rothesay Brandane held Caledonian League first division leaders Dalziel HSFP to a 1-1 draw on January 25.
Rothesay Brandane held Caledonian League first division leaders Dalziel HSFP to a 1-1 draw on January 25.

Skipper Wes Pattison found the net for Rothesay Brandane on Saturday as the island side secured a fine 1-1 league draw away to Dalziel HSFP.

A share of the spoils against the runaway leaders of the Caledonian League’s first division was the perfect tonic for the island club after their five-match winning run was halted by defeat at home to Drumchapel FP on January 18.

And the result was even more impressive when considered in the light of Dalziel’s impressive league record: the Lanarkshire side have only lost once league game all season, and have now drawn only twice - both times against the Brandanes, with Saturday’s draw following a thrilling game between the sides in Rothesay in November, when Sean Lawrence’s 94th-minute strike earned the Danes a 4-4 draw.

The Brandanes remain in second place in the league table, with Dalziel maintaining their nine-point advantage at the top after Saturday’s game.
