Rothesay Brandane held on to second place in the race for promotion from the Caledonian League’s first division with a 2-1 win away to Balmore Amateurs on Saturday.

The result - a welcome full points for the Rothesay men after a 2-1 loss to Strathclyde University in their last fixture - keeps the Brandanes 12 points behind long-time leaders Dalziel HSFP, and one point ahead of third-top Bearsden, though the island club have played two games more than the latter side.

All the sides involved in the promotion battle picked up full points on Saturday, with Milngavie Wanderers, Strathclyde University and Drumchapel FP also keeping their bids for a place in next season’s premier division very much alive.

See the March 21 edition of The Buteman for a match report from the Brandanes’ game; Saturday’s other first division results are as follows.

East Kilbride YM 1 Bearsden 2; Milngavie Wanderers 7 Cumbernauld Colts 2; Strathclyde University 2 Hamilton FP 0; Symington Tinto 0 Drumchapel FP 2; Viewfield Rovers 0 Dalziel HSFP 2; Weir Recreation 1 Rhu 1.
