Former Rothesay Academy pupil Jane Ross has thanked the fans of the Scotland women’s football team for their support after Wednesday night’s agonising Euro 2013 play-off defeat to Spain.

The Scots were on course to reach the finals in Sweden until the very last kick of the game - Veronica Boquete’s deflected strike, which gave the Spaniards a 3-2 win on the night and a 4-3 aggregate victory.

On Thursday morning Jane tweeted: “Thanks for all the msgs yday folks, ur support this entire campaign has been overwhelming #SWNT #amazingfans Proud to be a part of this team.”

More than 40 Bute supporters travelled to Saturday’s first leg at Hampden - the first appearance for the Scottish women’s team at the national stadium.
