Football: Jane Ross named on Team GB standby list

FORMER Rothesay Academy pupil Jane Ross has been named as one of the four stand-by players for the Team GB women’s football squad at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Jane, 22, who won her 38th Scotland cap in last week’s UEFA Euro 2013 qualifier against the Republic of Ireland in Cork, will train with the 18-strong squad throughout the campaign, which begins against New Zealand at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on July 25.

Jane began her football education with local coach Jim Ross, who was awarded a British Empire Medal in last week’s Queen’s birthday honours list.

Jane is a currently a student at Stirling University and a first team fixture for Scotland’s most successful club side, Glasgow City.

The only Scots in the first-choice squad are defender Ifeoma Dieke, who plays for Swedish club Vittsjo, and Kim Little of Arsenal Ladies.
