Former Rothesay Academy pupil Jane Ross grabbed the headlines with a hat-trick on Thursday as Scotland’s women kept their 2015 World Cup qualification bid on course with a 4-0 win away to Poland.
Jane opened the scoring from a Kim Little pass midway through the first half in Grodzisk Wielkopolski, and doubled the Scots’ advantage with a fine first-time finish from Hayley Lauder’s cross three minutes before the interval, before completing her treble just a minute into the second half, with Lauder again the provider, this time from a free kick.
Jo Love completed the scoring on 65 minutes, while Jane, who also opened the scoring in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Northern Ireland at Fir Park in Motherwell, now has six goals to her credit from the Scots’ four qualifying matches so far.
Thursday’s game brought down the curtain on Jane’s 2013 season, her first with Swedish side Vittsjo GIK since signing a professional contract with the club at the turn of the year.
Next up for the Scots is the return World Cup game against Poland at Fir Park on April 5, 2014, followed by a trip to Bosnia five days later.
