Football: Jane hits four as City march on

GLASGOW City striker and former Rothesay Academy pupil Jane Ross continued her fine start to the season on Sunday as the Scottish Women’s Premier League leaders retained top spot with a 15-1 thrashing of Kilmarnock.

Jane hit four goals to take her season’s tally to 13 from just four league and cup games, while her team-mate Leanne Ross found the net five times to take her personal Glasgow City tally to one hundred goals from just 82 starting appearances.

Twenty-two-year-old Jane, currently studying for a research Masters in sports and exercise science at Stirling University, has begun the season in superb goal-scoring form, hitting hat-tricks in her first four matches to take a healthy lead at the top of the Glasgow City scoring charts.

She also played a big role in keeping Scotland’s European Championship qualifying hopes alive, playing in both instalments of the recent international double-header in which the Scots bounced back from a 2-0 defeat to France in Le Havre, beating the Republic of Ireland 2-1 at Tynecastle on Thursday evening.
