Rothesay Brandane marked their return to competitive action with a convincing 4-1 home win over Weir Recreation in their first Caledonian League fixture of the season on Saturday.

Stuart McKechnie opened the scoring from the penalty spot midway through the first half, but the hosts, despite dominating proceedings, had to wait until after the interval for their second goal, John McBride obliging with a composed finish after he was played in by McKechnie.

Neil Whitelaw added the third with a tap-in, and though Weir’s number ten thumped a brilliant left-foot effort into the top corner to reduce the arrears, it was the hosts who had the last word, Sprowl completing the scoring after the ball fell favourably for him inside the box.
