Rothesay Brandane’s winning start to the 2013-14 Caledonian League campaign ground to a halt on Saturday after a 4-2 defeat at home to Strathclyde University.

The visitors opened the scoring from the penalty spot midway through the first half, but Stuart McKechnie levelled for the Danes in exactly the same fashion just two minutes later.

A close-range finish gave the Strathclyde students a 2-1 interval lead, and with a quarter of the game to go a beautiful curled shot into the far corner extended their advantage to two goals.

Sean Devlin got his head to a late free kick to give the Danes a glimmer of hope, but Strathclyde sealed the points with a spectacular looping shot from 30 yards with virtually the last kick of the game to end the islanders’ four-match winning run.
