BUTE YFC’S under-15 team fell to a 6-4 defeat against Harmony Row on Saturday in their hardest home game of the season so far - but the local side could take heart from an encouraging performance against very strong opponents.
The Glasgow team went into the game in second place in one of the best under-15 leagues in the west of Scotland – but even they could not have expected what happened in the first half hour as a new-look Bute team, with a 3-5-2 formation, roared into a commanding lead through Nico McBride’s penalty, a Matthew Leitch double and a Connor McClymont strike.
But Harmony Row fought back and cut the hosts’ lead to 4-2 with two quick goals before the break, before growing in confidence and adding another quick double early in the second half to level the scores.
Injuries to McBride and Kalum Ledicott further disrupted the home side’s rhythm and the visitors added another two quick goals with quarter of an hour to go to seal the points – though Bute dug deep in the closing stages, and instead of collapsing they had two great chances to grab a point, Leitch hitting the post and McClymont curling a free kick just inches wide of goal.
