Stuart McKechnie battles for possession during Rothesay Brandane's 2-1 loss to Strathclyde University in Saturday's Scottish Amateur Cup second round replay.

Rothesay Brandane were knocked out of the Scottish Amateur Cup after a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Strathclyde University in Saturday’s second round replay.

Despite creating plenty of chances before the break, the Rothesay men found themselves trailing at the interval to Mike Manson’s strike for the visitors midway through the first half - and the hosts’ frustration grew when Fraser Nicol added a second for the students ten minutes after the restart.

Gary McGregor stabbed the ball into the net on 70 minutes to give the Brandanes hope, but despite piling on the pressure in the closing stages the hosts were unable to find the equaliser which would have taken the tie into extra time.
