Rothesay Brandane ended a winless run stretching back more than two months with a convincing 3-0 home victory over Symington Tinto in the Caledonian League on Saturday.
The island side dominated possession throughout and thought they’d opened the scoring midway through the first half, but Gary McGregor was ruled offside after turning Stuart McKechnie’s free kick into the net.
The hosts did take the lead eight minutes later, McKechnie again acting as provider with a free kick which was ‘sclaffed’ over the line at the far post by John McBride.
McGregor hit the bar three minutes later as the Danes sought to add to their advantage, but the hosts had to wait until early in the second half to double their lead, Chris Lawrence slipping Neil Whitelaw’s neat through ball past Symington keeper Scott Dickson in the 52nd minute.
The points were eventually made safe in the 71st minute when McKechnie and James Sprowl combined nicely from a corner and McKechnie fired in a shot from a tight angle which was deflected past Dickson into the roof of the net.
