Football fans from Bute who travelled to Hampden for last month’s SFL game between Queen’s Park and Rangers have raised money for two local groups dedicated to the beautiful game.

The 44 fans who made the journey from Bute to the December 29 fixture raised £200 in a raffle, with the proceeds split equally between the Isle of Bute Rangers Supporters’ Club and Bute Youth Football Coaching.

The trip was organised through Tommy Walmsley of the Golfers Bar in Rothesay and Brian Middleton of Middleton’s Sandwich Bar in the town.

“A lot of people can’t get to the football on a Saturday,” Brian said, “so with the game being on during the Christmas holidays it was a chance for people to get to a game when they might not normally have been able to.”

The two cheques were presented at the Golfers Bar on Sunday.

“Our thanks to Garry True for getting the tickets for the game, Tommy Walmsley for organising the bus and Robert Carlin for organising hospitality for us at Cartha Queen’s Park rugby club,” Brian added.
