Bute-born midfielder Jim McAlister has been named Dundee FC’s player of the year.

The accolade was the ideal silver lining for McAlister on the day the SPL confirmed the Dark Blues’ relegation from the top flight, after deciding not to take action against Hearts over the looming insolvency of the Tynecastle club’s parent company.

McAlister’s form has been one of the brightest spots of a difficult SPL campaign for Dundee; signed less than 24 hours before the team’s first league fixture back in August, he finished the campaign as the only player named in the starting line-up for every one of the Dark Blues’ league and cup fixtures, and scored five goals along the way.

One Dundee supporter, Colin McKenzie, writing on the on the ‘Deefiant’ Dundee supporters’ Facebook page, described 27-year-old McAlister as the team’s “best player this season by a mile”.
