Away day disaster for Bute YFC

BUTE YFC’s under-15s suffered a disastrous day from start to finish thanks to a combination of illness, travel difficulties, a lack of warm-up time, the loss of an early goal and a missed penalty en route to a 6-0 defeat away to Giffnock SC Milan in the Paisley and District YFL on Saturday.

The squad travelled without defender Lex Elliot, who fell foul of a sickness bug just before departure, and were left waiting at Wemyss Bay for an hour after their hired coach failed to show up.

After hitching a lift for part of the way with Rothesay Brandane AFC, the BYFC team finally reached their own venue five minutes before kick-off and were given time for only the briefest of warm-ups – and the writing was on the wall when keeper Ryan Leitch collided with makeshift centre-half Rory McNeil after only 20 seconds, gifting the hosts the opening goal.

Matthew Leitch saw his penalty saved after Connor McClymont was hacked down inside the box, and a dismal day only got worse from that moment on as the islanders conceded five more goals on their first away trip of 2012.
