An EAGLE two at the 14th hole helped Gary Steele and Jimmy Crawford to a third weekly win in the Bike Shed Winter League pairs at Rothesay Golf Club on Sunday.
Steele and Crawford, who were joint winners with 45 points in the opening round of the competition in October, followed that up with outright top spot on November 4 and 11.
And though their latest winning total, Sunday’s tally of 44 points, was their lowest winning score of the competition so far, it was still enough to secure top spot by one point - with Steele’s five-point eagle at the 14th contributing in no small measure to their success.
Arthur Hunter and Tommy Duncan returned their best score of the year so far to finish in the runner-up spot on Sunday with 43 points - although they may well have come off the course wondering what might have been after bogeying the last three holes.
No-one scored a two at the nominated fourth hole on Sunday, so the twos pot this coming week will be at the fourth and eighth.
Only two players braved the weather in the latest round of the singles Winter League on Saturday, senior members Norman Lamond and Harry Milligan, but Harry shrugged off the difficult conditions to return a very good score of 38 points. The younger members of the Winter League field were obviously too worried about getting their hair wet to venture on to the course!
