It was party-time at Bute Golf Club on Saturday as Douglas Lyle closed the curtain on a highly successful summer season with his Captain's Fun Day.

There were novelty prizes galore and, on an afternoon of glorious sunshine, an al fresco lunch was enjoyed in the area of clubhouse with its stunning backdrop of The Sleeping Warrior atop the mountains of Arran.

On the playing side of things Vice-Captain Graeme Connor's team ungraciously defeated the captain's team by two strokes in a nine-hole Texas scramble challenge.

The other main prizes were won by Cathy McKirdy for the longest drive, John Kernaghan for nearest the pin at the third hole, while Douglas Lyle himself secured the special award for farthest from the pin!

Thanks went to the captain for his generosity and there was all-round praise to the greenstaff for the excellent condition of the course on Saturday and throughout the season.

Things get a bit more serious this weekend with the first round of the Winter League stableford tournament for the McArthur Cup which will again be sponsored by Stephen Thomas of Optimize Financial Solutions, Ltd.

The event, which was won last season by Robert McKirdy, continues each Saturday throughout the winter months until next March. The best eight scores from each player will count.

All members are invited to take part in the weekly ballot at the clubhouse at 8.30am although competitors can make their own playing arrangements throughout the day.
