The Kingarth die-hards were back in action last Saturday when they again defied wind and rain to compete in Bute Golf Club’s weather-ravaged Winter League.

This time their numbers were reduced to only three with Leighton Thomas, John Kernaghan and Richie Smith the survivors from the previous week’s travail. Thomas (11) and Kernaghan (12) produced excellent scores of 35 points apiece while Smith failed to make an impact as the extreme weather took its toll.

The result saw Kernaghan consolidate his position in third place in the table as his tally from eight counting scores increased by five points, while Thomas moved onto the leaderboard after completing his eighth round. The leading placings are: A. Docherty 315, G. McArthur 302, J. Kernaghan 295, R. Smith 287, R. More 284 and L. Thomas 274.

The tournament, sponsored by Stephen Thomas of Optimize Financial Solutions, Ltd, continues tomorrow (Saturday) with the usual 8.30am ballot at the clubhouse.
