Stuart Wilson made a remarkable return to Winter League action at Bute Golf Club on Saturday after an absence of five months from golf.

The 14-handicapper, who last played in the tournament in October, covered the last six holes in two under par for a total of 44 stableford points.

A birdie at the seventh boosted his score over the first nine holes to 19 points, but a stunning back nine of 25 included 11 points over the final three holes with back-to-back birdies at the 16th and 17th, and narrowly missed out on a ‘hat-trick’ at the last.

Sadly his explosive return is too late to mount a challenge for the championship as he does not have enough time left to register the required eight counting scores.

With just three rounds left, the leading placings in the league, which is sponsored by Stephen Thomas of Optimize Financial Solutions, Ltd., are: R. McKirdy 313, L. Thomas and J. McBride both 305, G. McArthur 302, P. McDonald 299, D. Coll and J. Thom both 297, P. Martin 286, D. Bryden 277, and R. More 264.
