Richie Smith battled through a hail storm last Saturday to record his second weekly victory in Bute Golf Club’s Winter League tournament.

The squall sent two-thirds of the field scurrying for the car park from more exposed parts of the Kingarth course as extreme weather continued to disrupt the stableford competition.

Winner Smith (20) even managed to achieve the only two of the day – at the 12th hole – and went on to finish with 35 points. Duncan Speirs (7), in runner-up spot, scored 32 points on a day when only four players completed the course.

As a result there was no significant change at the top of the table, where former club champion Robert McKirdy has an eight-point lead with a total of 325 points from eight counting scores.
