Popular children’s entertainer Douglas ‘Big Dougie’ Lyle celebrated his first major trophy win at Bute Golf Club on Saturday.

Twenty-five handicapper Lyle, the club’s vice-captain, played the game of his life to lift the McDougall Cup at Kingarth - and could even afford a quadruple-bogey eight at the fourth en route to a winning score of 85 for 44 stableford points.

Henry Tait (13) was runner-up on 41 points, with David Bryden (11) in third place on 40; other leading scorers were Leighton Thomas (10) 39, Robert McKirdy (6) 38, Pat McDonald (21) 37, and Ian McDougall (22) 36.
