At Bute Golf Club, Andy Docherty’s determination to retain the McArthur Cup was underlined on Saturday when he returned a winning score for the second week running.
In torrential showers the nine-handicapper coped well with the difficult weather conditions to lead the field with gross 71 for 42 points. Birdies at the eighth and 18th were the highlights of a score which was three points clear of his nearest challengers.
Graham McArthur (6) produced the outstanding golf of the day over the first nine holes, which he completed in three-under-par 31 for 24 points, with no dropped shots and birdies at the fifth, eighth and ninth, though he could not maintain that form on the inward half and finished with 39 points.
