Bute are handed tough Macaulay test

BUTE Shinty Club's senior team have been handed just about the toughest possible tie after the first of the 2011 season's cup draws this week.

The island team will be away to Inveraray in the first round of the Artemis Macaulay Cup, with an away quarter-final against Glenorchy or Kyles Athletic awaiting the winners.

The sides' last Macaulay Cup clash ended in a crushing 9-0 defeat for Bute in last year's semi-final at Mossfield Park in Oban.

The full first round draw is as follows.

North: Lochaber v Kilmallie, Kinlochshiel v Newtonmore, Glenurquhart v Kingussie, Lovat v Fort William. South: Inveraray v Bute, Glasgow Mid Argyll v Oban Celtic, Kilmory v Oban Camanachd, Glenorchy v Kyles Athletic.

A date for the first round of the competition has yet to be decided.

The Camanachd Association's operations manager Astie Cameron has told The Buteman he hopes a first draft of the full 2011 fixture list will be ready by Christmas.
