THERE was yet more frustration for the island's shinty players and fans on Saturday as both Bute Shinty Club's fixtures were washed out by the wet weather.
The senior team's Glasgow Celtic Society Cup tie at home to Kyles Athletic, and the second team's league game away to Col-Glen, both fell victim to waterlogged pitches in Rothesay and Glendaruel as heavy rain in the preceding days put paid to almost
all shinty in the south of Scotland.

The one figure at the club who did get a meaningful run-out on Saturday was referee Ted McDonald, who took charge of the only game in the south to beat the weather, Oban Camanachd's 5-1 win at Strachur in the first round of the Celtic Cup.

The winner of the Bute-Kyles first round tie will now be at home to Oban in the quarter-final on Saturday, April 26.

This Saturday, April 5, Bute's senior team will try again to play their first round Celtic Cup tie at home to Kyles. Throw-up at the Meadows is at 2.30pm, though the game may be transferred to Tighnabruaich - or anywhere else with a dry playing surface! - if the Meadows proves unplayable.

Bute's second team weren't originally scheduled to have a game this Saturday, but the Camanachd Association has re-jigged the South Division Two fixture list in a bid to cut down on the growing fixture backlog, and the team now has an away league match against Aberdour, starting at 2.30pm.
