SCORES of 62 dominated proceedings at the MacLeod Homes Port Open at Port Bannatyne on Saturday.
One of them ensured that Rothesay's George Reynolds retained the trophy he won last year, and the other, a net score this time, won Tommy McCready the handicap prize.
In the first group on the course, George's scratch 62 was never really threatened throughout the day's play - although brother Tommy did try hard, and his scratch 69, net 64, was good enough to take second prize in the handicap category.
Kyles of Bute player R. MacLeod was runner-up with his scratch score of 67 with local player Stephen Renfrew in third with 69.
But it was George's 62 that was the talk of the day, though bogey scores at the 14th, 16th and 18th ensured the course record would remain undamaged after the holder's outward half of 30 put it in serious jeopardy.
Tommy McCready's winning handicap score of 62 came late in the day and left a whole lot of hopefuls in his wake. With Tommy Reynolds taking second place (net 64), it was left to the better inward halves to decide the minor placings, Graham McArthur scoring the best of the bunch to take third.
Port Bannatyne Golf Club is indebted to MacLeod Homes for their continued support and sponsorship. Full result as follows.
1 G. Reynolds (Rothesay) 62; 2 R. MacLeod (Kyles of Bute) 67; 3 S. Renfrew (Old Ranfurly) 69; 4 G. Dunn (Port Bannatyne) 70; 5= G. Hanson (Rothesay) and I. Shaw (Port Bannatyne) 71.

* This weekend features the club championship qualifying rounds. Golfers unable to play in the knock-out stages on Tuesday and Thursday – plus the final in the club championship and Arthur Slack competition – are asked to indicate this on their scorecard.
Tied scores in the championship will require an 18-hole play-off on Monday evening.
