Reynolds, who won the championship for the first time way back in 1991, secured his latest title at the third extra hole after surviving a strong fightback by long-time rival Graham Bolton in the second half of the 36-hole final.
Both players wer
e keen to demonstrate, after missing out on the 2008 final, that they have many years of quality golf still left in them, and in weather conditions which were much kinder to the players than they had been during the week for the quarter- and semi-finals it was Reynolds who took the early initiative, seizing the lead with a birdie at the second and doubling it at the third when Bolton unexpectedly missed a putt for par.
A third birdie at the fifth gave Reynolds a clear lead, and though Bolton birdied the sixth to pull one back George reached the turn with a two-hole lead after an outward half of 32 to his opponent's 35.
The two traded holes on the first part of the inward nine, Bolton's superb birdie putt at the 11th a particular highlight, but Reynolds stretched away with birdies at the 14th, 15th and 17th to take a five-shot advantage - and despite pulling one back at the 18th, Bolton still had it all to do at four holes down as the players headed for lunch.
But to his great credit, Bolton staged a tremendous comeback right from the off in the afternoon round, taking five in succession from the second hole onwards to emerge with a one-hole advantage and reaching the turn in 33 as against Reynolds' 38.
Once again the early holes of the inward half were shared before Graham won the 13th to take a two-hole lead, and three successive birdies - for Reynolds at the 14th and 16th and Bolton at the 15th - kept Reynolds at one down.
The 17th hole of the afternoon was halved, leaving Bolton going to the 18th dormie - but his drive could only find the path in front of the clubhouse, with Reynolds finishing some six feet from the pin before sinking his birdie putt to take the match into extra holes.
The first two of those were halved in par, but on the third Bolton's drive went into the bushes on the left hand side, with his nearest point of relief back on the tee.
Bolton eventually found the green in four, but Reynolds found it in three - and Bolton narrowly missed his putt for a five to give Reynolds two putts for the title, a chance he was never going to pass up.
In the other finals played on Saturday, the second class Atlantic Tankard was won by Jim McKirdy who beat Charlie Sidebottom 2 and 1, while the Sunningdale Bowl for third class was won by Donnie McArthur who beat Drew Pearson 5 and 3.
The junior championship title went to Graham Shaw, who beat Stewart Hogarth also by 5 and 3.
