THE ever-exciting annual indoor football tournament came to a thrilling conclusion last Friday evening with the latest round of finals.
The many young footballers who have provided ample entertainment this season pulled out all the stops once more.

And the standard of action looks set to ensure many more years of exciting action to come.

Our faithful reporters Jim Sweeney and
Calum Thomson were on hand to bring you the best of the evening's action and our grateful thanks to them for their sterling work this winter.

Under 9 - Mighty Midgets 0, Millions 3

This really was an all action affair and the final result was always in the balance until the last three minutes.

The younger Midgets laid out their stall early with Andrew Mclean and Craig Fisher playing a dual role in defence and attack.

Tommy Charker and Lewis Dunn shored up the rear. Millions were their usual commanding self, with Sam Hislop sound in goal and Alistair Shaw, John Murray, Ronan Officer and Lewis Poole combining well, but their early attempts at goal were lacking in direction and kept Midgets in contention for most of the game.

Poole was first to test David Maxwell in Midgets' goal and then McLean had a good attempt on goal at the other end.

Just when it seemed neither side would find the net before half time, Officer latched on to a pass from Shaw to coolly left foot Millions' opener past Maxwell.

While Midgets continued to fight valiantly to get on level terms, Millions' experience showed and when Officer doubled Millions' score there was no way back for Midgets. Poole landed a third for Millions with two minutes remaining to give Millions the under nine trophy.

Under 11 - North Stars 0, Golden Boot 1

This was not a game for the faint-hearted with both sides stretching every sinew of muscle and putting 100% effort into winning their final.

Although no goals were scored in normal time, the action was non-stop.
Stars' Scott Dunn, Lewis MacMillan, Conor McClymont and Simon Yost were moving the ball sweetly and creating goal scoring opportunities but Robert Simpson was in outstanding form in the Boot goal.

At the other end Rory McNeil, Nathan Kernaghan and Euan McGregor fought for everything while Nico McBride displayed great trickery with mazy runs at Stars' defence, but either the goal posts or Kieran Paterson's brilliance in goals prevented any scoring.

When it went into the golden goal period it was anyone's game but Boot's winner eventually came from Kernaghan, who gave Patterson no chance with a well executed shot which secured the title.

Under 13 - Balls of Steel 5, Najlepsi 1

With Najlepsi having the tougher of the semi finals, Balls of Steel went into the final as slight favourites. However the early signs of the game indicated there wasn't much between the sides.

Chances were few and far between in the opening exchanges, with both sides defending well until Najlepsi's Dawid Jedrol got past his man and fired his shot past the static Steels' keeper.

However their lead was short lived as, from the returning centre, Arran Dunn hammered a long-range effort low into the bottom corner.

Dunn could have added a second to his name moments later after some fancy footwork but he couldn't get his shot away because of a last ditch tackle from a Najlepsi defender. Najlepsi's Scott McCallum came close before Steels' Tony Macqueen gave his side a 2-1 lead going into the second half.

Steel peppered shots on the Najlepsi goal in the second half and the keeper did well to parry a few away, however Steel dominated the half and further goals from Nicky Jardine, Joe Livingstone, and Macqueen gave Balls of Steel a comfortable victory.

Under 15 - The Islander 3, No Height Limit 2

There was little between the sides in the early exchanges and neither keepers, Steffan Cassidy or Martin Gillies, had any testing shots in the first four minutes.

It was Limit's Andy Lench, however, who broke the deadlock after finding a way through a tight Islander defence.

A minute later Jordon Selkirk equalised. From then on both sides were shooting on sight, but Limit's Rory McGregor was carrying an injury from the semis which unfortunately restricted his contribution.

Selkirk blasted a second for the Islander, and a minute later Chris Lawrence brought the sides equal just before half-time.

The sides were so evenly matched it was impossible to predict a winner and, just as it seemed to be heading to extra time, Selkirk scored Islander's third with a great drive past Gillies and secured the trophy.

Ladies - Tangoed 1, Tatties 0

In the opening minutes both sides defended well, with neither side looking like giving anything away with so much at stake.

Tangoed's Sarah Murdoch almost opened the scoring but the ball was snapped away from her feet when she was just about to pull the trigger.
Tatties continued to break up any potential attacks Tangoed mounted and, when they won back possession, they countered quickly, which almost paid dividends when Michaela Howard crafted an opportunity.

However her shot fizzed narrowly wide and the first half remained goalless.

Tangoed's Fiona Ross caused Tatties' defence problems throughout the second half with her electrifying pace and she was unlucky not to score when her close range effort was saved brilliantly by the on form Tatties' goalkeeper. At the other end Howard forced Claire Colquhoun to parry her effort wide.

The more this game went on, the more it looked as if one goal would settle it. Murdoch thought she had found that goal with four minutes to go, however her shot didn't quite have the momentum to cross the line.

Tatties' Megan Reid gave a master class in defence throughout, as she constantly broke up attacks and was the key to shutting Tangoed out.

However with only minutes of the game remaining, Murdoch managed to wriggle away from her marker and calmly slot a shot into the bottom corner, giving the keeper no chance.

The remaining minutes were nervy for Tangoed as Tatties were pushing for an equaliser, but they managed to hold out and lift the trophy.

Under 18 - On the Weights 1, Spider Pigs (2) 6

Weights had to endure a very tough semi-final before meeting Pigs' outfit on top of their form. In spite of this there was little between the sides in the early exchanges.

Keeper, James Dunn, distributed a good through ball to Weights' Alistair Storrie, who was unlucky not to find the net. Pigs were faster on the ball at this point and Mikey MacDougall, Iain Livingstone, Kerr Slaven and Graham Crawford were giving the Weights' defence a torrid time before Crawford scored Weights' opener in the fourth minute.

A minute later, MacDougall drove a great volley through Dunn's legs to score Pigs' second just before half-time. Immediately after the restart, Euan Mackay came inches from scoring an opener for Weights but when Crawford and Livingstone brought Pigs' total to four, Weights' prospects of lifting the trophy looked slim.

Liam Tait did win one back for Weights but further goals from Slaven and Livingstone ensured Spider Pigs lifted the under 18 trophy.
