DONALD Standaloft won his fourth Port Bannatyne Golf Club Championship by defeating defending champion Graham Dunn in the final.
Both players had nervy wins in their semi finals with Donald defeating Jamie Jardine at the 19th, while Graham was 4 up with five to play against brother in law David Whitelaw and finally wining on the 17th after a good fight back from David.

The
final itself was played in very windy conditions with squally rain showers in the morning 18. Graham won the first with a par but gave it back at the second when he bogeyed, and Donald managed the par. It stayed all square until the 5th when an errant drive cost Donald a bogey and with Graham birdieying the 6th he was then 2 up.

Donald fought back at the 9th with a birdie of his own and the players reached the turn with Graham 1 up. 10 and 11 were halved in pars but at the 12th Donald's pitch to the green hit the back of an unrepaired divot and virtually died, (all players please take note - it could be you next - repair your divots!), leaving him an awkward shot pitch to the green. Graham meanwhile had no such problem and his par was good enough for him to get back to 2 up.

Another errant drive from Donald cost him the 13th and Graham went to 14 three up. This was they way it stayed until 17 when Donald absolutely nailed his drive downwind to land it 2 feet from the front of the green and an easy 3. He then went on to win 18 andhead off for lunch only 1 down. (Best ball was 64).

After an excellent lunch prepared by Janey Jardine, the players returned to the fray for the afternoon 18.

Pars at the first two holes by both players ensured no change to the score but both players had bad drives at the 3rd with Graham eventually having to concede the hole as he lost his ball. Graham then lost the 4th and 5th to pars and suddenly the game had a significant shift in Donald's favour.

From 1 up at the end of the second to 2 down at the 5th, 6 and 7 were halved in par but Graham birdied 8 to get back to within 1. Donald regained his 2 up lead by birdieying 9. A bad tee shot by Donald at 10 saw his ball dropping in to the new pond and Graham was back within 1 again.

This was the way it stayed until 16 when a bogey by Graham meant Donald was then 2 up with only two to play. Both players birdied 17 but it meant that Donald had clinched his fourth Championship. (Best ball in the afternoon with a par at 18 was 65).

Congratulations to both players for providing a superb final which was played in the best spirit of the game and was a joy to watch - despite the weather!
