BUTE played only one game on their annual tour of Fife at the weekend, with a howling gale at their backs and the imposing East Lomond hill providing a sightscreen in the lovely village of Falkland on Sunday.
Both teams had missed out on any action the previous day thanks to the type of weather which seems to be imported annually for the nearby T in the Park music festival.
That made for some interesting team selections, with Falkland's team including a pro, an amateur, juniors and ex-cricketers.
Bute just managed to field a barely functioning team, thanks to a few players carrying injuries and others slightly past their best after a few light refreshments following the cancellation of their Saturday game with the staff of St Andrews University.
The home side won the toss and, despite some attempted negotiations from tour captain Guy Crichton, chose to bat.
Their Sri Lankan amateur held the major part of the Falkland innings together with a score of 54 before seeing his off stump sent flying by a quick ball that seamed in from Mark Crichton.
Bute were able to exert a measure of control, with wickets falling at regular intervals, but they couldn't stop the flow of runs on the large outfield.
One of their major problems was a wind which was constantly knocking the bails off the stumps, and made communication between the fielders very difficult!
Falkland's pro came in at number ten and scored a quick 28 before Richard Harding had him caught at backward point - a prize scalp, as he had just made four hundreds in his last four matches for the Falkland first team.
Another wicket for Harding quickly followed, and brought Falkland's innings to a close at 167 all out from 38 overs.
Mark Crichton was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with figures of four for 15 off eight overs, and Gary Dickinson bowled a tidy spell with two for 25 off eight overs.
Bute got their innings off to a bright start, but from a decent position of 30 for no wicket they lost their top order in quick fashion, five wickets falling for just another 14 runs and leaving them in a position where they were never in a position to challenge the target.
Robert Macintyre had his first inning for Bute for 12 months (his previous innings was also on last year's tour). He managed to make three runs - one more than the three Crichtons managed between them!
Despite Falkland's pro and overseas amateur both bowling towards the end of Bute's innings, a combination of stubborn batting, and good fortune enabled Bute to get past three figures and when the last man was out they had got 113 from 34 overs.
The only scores of note in the innings came from Alan Peacock (24), Peter Manvell (19) and Gary Dickinson with 17 not out.
* This Saturday, July 17, Bute travel away (a very long way) to Gatehouse of Fleet for a WDCU league fixture.
