THE Brandanes' 2008-09 season has ended on a disappointing - and somewhat deflating - note after their last two matches, both on home soil, were cancelled.
Both Symington Tinto and league champions Cambusbarron Rovers gave notice that they would be unable to put a team together to come to Rothesay for the end-of-season fixtures.

The costs incurred by the Brandanes in travelling to fulfil their away g
ames against both sides will only add to the disappointment of both players and officials at the anti-climactic end to the campaign.

In total the Rothesay men have played 18 away matches during a busy 2008-09 campaign - 14 games in the Caledonian League and another four in the various cup competitions - and finished the season strongly with only two defeats in their last nine matches.

Not counting the two cancelled end-of-season games, for which the Danes have been awarded the points, the island side conclude their season with a record of 14 wins, five draws and seven defeats from 26 Caledonian League first division matches.

High points from the locals' league campaign include a 2-1 win away to Westerlands in their first league match of the season, a win by the same score - with a superb team performance to boot - away to St Mungo's FP, and that battling draw at Cambusbarron, in which the Danes became the first and only team to avoid defeat at Mill Road Park all season.

On home soil the stand-out results include a 3-1 win over Bearsden, who went on to finish the season in third place, and the remarkable 13-1 thrashing of Muirend which brought 2008 to a close on a high note.
Captain Neil Whitelaw finishes the season as the Danes' top scorer with 16 goals, with Wes Pattison chalking up 13 and Stuart McKechnie, Iain Livingstone and Sean Lawrence tied on 12 apiece.
