The newly-crowned East of Scotland Cup winners showed their intentions early on by throwing in some meaty tackles, most of them going unpunished by the referee, but the young Rothesay team showed plenty of spirit in refusing to be bullied out of the
tie - and in securing a draw, became the first team to avoid defeat at the Rovers' Mill Road Park ground in 2008-09.
Cambusbarron took the lead after nine minutes with a disputed goal, home number ten Iain Stewart appearing to be caught at least a yard offside when running on to a through ball - but to the big fellow's credit, he didn't stop and wait for the referee's whistle, instead giving Danes keeper David McLauchlan no chance from eight yards out.
That injustice seemed to fire up the island team, who started to take the game to their hosts, playing some great football down the wings.
Cambusbarron continued with their heavy-handed approach, giving away a string of free kicks, though none resulted in any further action being taken by the referee.
But Cambusbarron's sins did eventually find them out, Stuart McKechnie levelling the scores in fine style when he fired an unstoppable 25-yard free kick past the Rovers keeper and into the corner of the net.
The islanders were properly on fire now, and the home side began to get really rattled - not least when they began the second half still on level terms and having lost the considerable advantage of the notorious Mill Road Park slope.
The Danes, kicking downhill after the interval, soon had the experienced Cambusbarron defence under pressure, with Sean Lawrence, Troy McKerrell and Iain Livingstone all running their markers ragged.
Wes Pattison should have done better with a couple of decent goalscoring opportunities, but all missed chances were forgotten when Gary McGregor hammered an unstoppable 30-yard free kick into the net, home keeper Billy Davidson barely seeing the ball as it flashed past him to put the Danes 2-1 ahead.
Rovers immediately changed tactics after falling behind, pushing three men up front and putting the Brandanes on the back foot for the first time in the match.
And just as it looked as if the Danes would inflict only a third league defeat of the season on the champions-elect, Liam Tait got caught on the wrong side of Rovers' number 11, Chris McBrier, and Tait's mistimed tackle saw his opponent crash to the ground.
The foul appeared to have been committed just outside the area, but the referee stunned the Danes by pointing straight to the penalty spot - and McBrier, who couldn't believe his luck, dusted himself down and gave McLauchlan no chance with the penalty.
Both teams went all out for a winner in the closing stages, but neither was able to conjure up a third goal and had to settle for a point apiece.
Cambusbarron's promotion celebrations were delayed for only two days by this result - the points they needed were secured in a 4-2 win away to Gartcosh United on Tuesday evening - but they certainly won't miss playing against a Rothesay team which, if they could only add consistency to their undoubted ability, would surely be challenging right at the top of the league.
