WITH the weather (hopefully!) taking a turn for the better, Rothesay Brandane AFC are scheduled to be back in action this Saturday, March 29, with a Caledonian League fixture away to Gartcosh United.
The race for promotion from the league's second division is still remarkably close, and the Danes' lack of recent match practice, having now been idle for five weeks, is perhaps not the ideal preparation for the run-in to the promotion race, but the
players have been training hard and are looking forward to the challenge of the final five games.

Cambusbarron Rovers top the table with 21 points from 12 games, with the Brandanes two points behind but with a game in hand.

Possibly the biggest threat to either side's promotion hopes, though, comes from third-placed Westerlands - the Glasgow club have gathered 16 points so far. but have only played seven league games, and with nine more to go before the season's end they would appear to be in the strongest position to mount a late challenge.

In addition to this Saturday's game away to Gartcosh, the Danes' run-in features away fixtures against Westerlands and Rhu Amateurs and home games against Cambusbarron Rovers and Muirend.

The March edition of the Caledonian League Newsletter shows that the top scorer in the second division (league goals only) is Iain Stewart of Cambusbarron, with ten goals to his credit - but hard on his heels are the Brandanes pair of Neil Whitelaw and Wes Pattison, with eight and seven goals to their name respectively.
