The installation of a brand new 3G all-weather surface at Rothesay Joint Campus is due to begin on Monday.

The current second-generation, or 2G, surface is to be replaced with a new facility over the next three weeks, at last bringing Rothesay into line with other publicly-operated artificial pitches in Argyll and Bute’s other towns.

The new surface, unlike the previous pitch, will be of a type approved for use in competitive youth and adult football matches - though it will also cost more to hire after Argyll and Bute Council’s decision earlier this year to increase the charge from £15.27 an hour in 2014-15 to £55 an hour by 2018-19.

The new surface should be ready for use by the time the new school year begins on August 18.
