VJ Day marked in Rothesay

A memorial service was held in Rothesay on Friday to mark the 70th anniversary of VJ Day and of the end of the Second World War in the Far East.

The service, organised by the Bute branch of the Royal British Legion, was held in the Montague Street garden in the centre of the town, with Provost of Argyll and Bute, Len Scoullar, laying a wreath at the town’s VJ Day memorial stone.

The Very Rev Andrew Swift of St Paul’s Church - the branch’s chaplain - led those present in prayer, remembering all those who gave their lives in the Second World War.
