VIDEO: The Buteman’s election hustings in Rothesay

Four of the five candidates competing for Argyll and Bute’s votes in next month’s UK general election arrived in Rothesay on Sunday to appeal for the backing of the island’s residents.

Alan Reid for the Liberal Democrats, Labour’s Mary Galbraith, the Conservatives’ Alastair Redman and SNP candidate Brendan O’Hara all attended The Buteman’s hustings at Rothesay Pavilion, though UKIP candidate Caroline Santos was unable to be present due to work commitments.

The four candidates’ thoughts on tactical voting, welfare, the economy, Trident and the implications of last year’s independence referendum, along with much else, were also broadcast live online thanks to Democracy TV Scotland, who provided a worldwide live stream of the event.

The ten-minute clip at the top of this story features the four candidates’ opening statements, while you can also watch HD footage of the entire event at the link above on Democracy TV Scotland’s YouTube channel.
