Glasgow’s Commonwealth Games are only a few weeks away - and at Rothesay Primary School, excitement is building at the start of their own big Commonwealth event.

A noisy and colourful ceremony opened the school’s Commonwealth Fortnight in grand style on Monday in front of proud parents and invited guests.

Among the latter was past Rothesay Primary pupil Jim McAlister, enjoying a well-earned close-season break after winning promotion with Dundee FC last month, who returned to his old school to pass on some tips for a successful education to the class of 2014.

Amid a riot of flags from Commonwealth nations including Malawi, Australia, Kenya, New Zealand, South Africa, Northern Ireland and Scotland, the official Games dance and song were both performed to start off two busy weeks of Commonwealth-themed sporting activities - which you can read more about on this site between now and the end of June!
